Swine Innovation Porc Launches National Research Funding Call
Advancing Swine Research –
Call for Proposals
News Release - February 13, 2025
Ottawa, ON — Swine Innovation Porc (SIP) is pleased to announce the launch of the Advancing Swine Research funding call, made possible through support from the Pork Promotion and Research Agency (PPRA), which invests in research and market development efforts for the benefit of pork producers and processors. This funding call seeks to align national research priorities and sector challenges to enhance growth, competitiveness and sustainability across the pork sector.
As Canada’s facilitator for pork research, SIP works with industry, academia, and government to advance science-driven solutions. This funding opportunity builds on an extensive National Research Priority Review, which engaged provincial pork organizations and value chain stakeholders to identify the most pressing industry challenges.

“As we launch this new research funding opportunity, we are excited to continue driving innovation through targeted investments in priority areas,” said Arno Schober, SIP Chair. “By supporting industry-driven, collaborative research, we aim to deliver practical innovations and insights for the benefit of the entire pork value chain, from producers to processors.”

This funding call prioritizes both discovery and applied research across targeted research areas related to animal health, buildings and equipment, food safety and quality, and improving energy and water efficiency.
Researchers can apply for funding of short-term "Quick Win" studies (up to $50,000, completed within a year) or discovery and applied research projects (up to $150,000, up to three years).
“Investments in both foundational research and short-term pilot projects help bridge the gap between discovery and application,” said Dr. Andrew Van Kessel, Chair of SIP’s Science Advisory Body. “With the caliber of expertise available across the swine research community, we are eager to see the innovative ideas and solutions that will emerge through this initiative.”
Interested applicants are encouraged to review the program details and submit their full proposals by April 23, 2025.
